Ever look though fashion magazines to see what the trends are for the season and see something that you would love to have but it’s really expensive? Well as I turned the pages came across a beautiful simple high/low maxi skirt also known as mullet or fishtail skirt with a $100 price tag. Knowing that I have a few maxi skirts in my closet this got me thinking, how hard would it be to make my own high/low maxi skirt?
After searching the web came across a tutorial http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2012/07/make-your-own-high-low-skirt.html to get an idea on how to create my own high/low maxi skirt and realized the only thing you have to do is cut the skirt at a “U” or “C” shape angle. Today’s blog is how to up-cycle an old maxi skirt into a high/low maxi skirt so let get started.
What you will need is a pair of scissors, measuring tape, marking pin, sewing machine, and of course an old maxi skirt.
Note: If you do not have one in your closet visit your local thrift store and look for a skirt that has some flow to it.
Decide on the length you want for the front of the skirt by putting on your skirt and measure from the waist down to the length you want plus 1 inch for the hem then make a mark on the skirt with the marking pen. Remove your skirt and turn it where the back meets the front, then spread it out onto a smooth surface or carpet. Start cutting where you made the mark on the skirt and cut a “U” or “C” shape angle.
Hem the skirt and you’re done, now you have a beautiful high/low skirt that cost you nothing but a little bit of your time.
